Smithsonian NMNH: BrightSign Kiosk Interactives

Three interactive kiosk experiences I built as the sole developer for the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History. Static HTML/CSS/JS applications with GSAP animations, optimized for 640x480 BrightSign hardware. Includes Hippo Time Travel (video-driven), Predator, and Prey interactives.

Overview

I was the sole developer on three interactive kiosk experiences for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, built for BrightSign media player hardware at 640x480 resolution.

My Role

I built all three interactives from scratch, 100% of the commits on each project. These are static HTML/CSS/JS applications, not frameworks, designed to run reliably on constrained kiosk hardware.

The Interactives

Hippo Time Travel

A video-driven interactive with GSAP animations and touch-driven transitions. 105 commits. The main challenge was video optimization, getting smooth playback and transitions on BrightSign hardware with limited processing power.

Predator

A video interactive exploring predator adaptations. 19 commits. Companion piece to Prey, built as a pair for the same exhibit space.

Prey

A video interactive exploring prey defense mechanisms. 16 commits. Companion to Predator.

Note

There is also a Hunt Like a Bat interactive in the same NMNH exhibit suite. That was built primarily by a colleague. I contributed only 2 of its 52 commits.
